Menu Plan Monday – 5/20

Menu Plan Monday

Menu Plan Monday

It’s Monday! Time to think about what we’ve got on hand! Yesterday, I planned out the activities for the week, but made just general ideas of what we wanted to eat and refreshed my memory on what we already have. Then I picked up a few items on sale that kinda rearranged my plan for me.

Monday: Leftovers from grilling. There is a pile of pork chops just hanging out. :)

Tuesday: Something quick and easy. We like the Zatarain’s Reduced Sodium Jambalaya, so that will work for the carnivores. I got a package of sausage on markdown at Randalls and it needs to be eaten quickly.

Wednesday: My daughter has a choir show, so this will be a quick night. Big chef salads or something similar.

Thursday: Homemade chicken nuggets using Kraft Fresh Take. This package somehow slipped to the back of the cheese drawer. Served mashed potatoes and corn.

Friday: Pizza night!

Saturday: Leftovers/freezer food. Everyone is always going in so many directions on the weekend.

Sunday: Fajitas! It’s already too hot to cook, so we’re going to grill. I’ll probably also have some chicken ready to go on the grill. Grilled chicken Caesar salads are a big favorite.

Save Money on Gas with Store Promotions

Save Money on Gas with Store Promotions

Menu plan.
Make a grocery list.
Check grocery store ads.
Clip and print coupons.

This is my favorite way to save money – making plans and lists. Before I go shopping, I take a quick peek to see the new ads. Sometimes Randalls will put out a Sunday ad. And that reminded me to print the $5/50 from Recyclebank. That will stack with the $.30/off gas rewards that I’ll get for purchasing $40 in one transaction that I posted about here.

Gas Savings at Randalls

Right off the bat, I’m saving quite a bit.  Also, I have a reward for $15 when I spend $100 on gift cards.  Since I know I’m going to fill up my car, that $100 go to work for me.

So here’s how it will work.

  • Spend $100 + activation fee on MasterCard gift cards, get $15 catalina.  Get $.30/gal off gas.  Whoops, fine print excludes gift card purchases.
  • Then, use the $5/50 I printed from Recyclebank AND the $15 catalina when I go to buy groceries.  I just saved 40% right there, without handing over a single additional coupon.  I also have 2 freebie coupons that I got from Safeway/Randalls on Facebook.  I’ll use those as well, bringing my out of pocket even lower.  Use the MasterCard to pay. This will give me another $.30 off rewards, but they probably won’t stack…
  • Fill up both of our cars with gas, using the MasterCard to pay, again.

Even though I spent $100 + activation fees out of pocket, I’m actually going to get much more mileage (no pun intended) by using that to pay for gas, groceries and anything else I might need this week.

Menu Plan Monday – 5/6

Menu Plan Monday time! This really starts my week off on the right foot. I check my pantry and freezer on Sunday to see what we need to eat, and base my plans on that. This week, I’m going to do a big clean out of both the pantry and freezer, so we’re eating a lot of the stuff we already have.  These recipes are easy to put together for weeknight meals.

Monday:  Grilled Chicken Caesar Salads. We had fajitas on Sunday night since it was Cinco de Mayo and I had my husband throw some chicken ($1.19/lb at Fiesta this week) on the grill as well. I buy a huge tub of lettuce from HEB ($5), croutons are $.89, and dressing is free. This dinner is less than $5, since we won’t finish all the lettuce or croutons.

Tuesday:  Broiled tilapia, rice, and steamed broccoli. Tilapia was $1.99/lb and we’ll eat two pounds. The rice and broccoli probably clock in at $1.50 combined. Total = $5.48.

Wednesday:  Leftover night. I like to clean out the fridge before our trash runs on Thursdays, so it’s eat what you find night.  Free.

Thursday:  Spaghetti, salad, and fresh garlic bread. Spaghetti is really cheap, and around $8 total. I’m making a point of buying more beef now, because beef hit a record high. Stock up when it’s cheap, now.

Friday:Pizza night! We’ll probably do Little Caesar’s.  We need 3 pizzas for 5 people, since even the preschooler will put away 3 pieces.  $15 plus tax.

Saturday: Fend for yourself night. Mama’s not cooking.

Sunday: Mother’s Day! I am not cooking. ;)

Menu Plan Monday – 4/29

Menu Plan Monday

Busy week this week, so menu planning is a must! Tonight my husband and I are going to attend an early screening of Iron Man 3 (watch for our review after the opening), tomorrow is my oldest’s 17th birthday, and we’re planning some fun for the weekend as well.

Monday: Frozen Fend! :) I saw pizza, burritos, egg rolls, and chicken tenders all waiting for a microwave or oven.

Tuesday:My TGI Friday’s Parmesan Chicken as per the birthday boy’s request, but I’m going to try something a little different…  Like taking pictures of it.  ;)   Serving mashed potatoes and sweet peas, also by request. I don’t like sweet peas, so I’m also making some green beans for myself.

Wednesday: Pork chops or pork loin – depends on timing. I’m going to try to make it to Sprouts to take advantage of Double Ad day. I need to pick up Jamey’s vitamins.

Thursday: Chicken bowtie pasta with bacon and tomatoes. It’s kinda of like Carino’s bowtie festival, but much more tasty.

Friday: Hot sandwiches or fend for yourself.

Saturday: Pizza night!

Sunday: Undetermined. Depends on who’s doing what. :)

Houston Grocery Store Deals – 4/17

Did you miss a post this week? Here are the best Houston Grocery Store Deals that I found this week. Free razors at Joe V’s Smart Shop, cheap sugar at Food Town, and a few other bits and pieces around town. If I have time, I want to work on Randalls and Kroger because I see a couple things that might be good deals. In addition, Aldi will be joining the regular lineup here, and I want to get their deals done. Did I miss your favorite store? Where do you shop?

Menu Plan Monday – 4/8

Today, I made 11 quarts of chicken stock, prepped the meatloaves and chicken and roasted a pork tenderloin. I was a busy girl after my trip to Sprouts this morning. I bought: 10 lbs of fresh 85/15 ground beef, 6 lbs of chicken tenders, lots and lots of fruit and veggies, and a few other things that were on sale. I could have probably spent a lot longer in there, but I definitely spent half of my grocery budget in there. :)

Monday: Mini meatloaves, mashed potatoes OR roasted red potatoes (leftover from Sunday), green beans.

Tuesday: Chicken and bowtie pasta. Jamey has trouble with too much noodle. ;)   Served with a green salad and bread.

Wednesday: Clean out the fridge night.

Thursday: Bacon wrapped chicken, stuffed with fresh jalapeno and cheese, served with spanish rice. I saw this on pinterest and it has me intrigued.

Friday: Tacos, nachos, or burritos.

Saturday: Fend for yourself, aka Mama ain’t cooking.

Sunday: Birthday dinner for my CJ! :)

Best Houston Grocery Deals – 3/27

Best Houston Grocery Deals – Week of 3/27

For the first time, I am jealous of the grocery deals available in Katy. Sprouts Farmers Market opened up in Katy this week and I was able to do a walkthrough.  So jealous of all of the low prices for natural foods!  And some of their produce!  The organic was cheaper than the conventional!  I am waiting on pins and needles for the rest of the locations to be announced.

So, what’s on your grocery list?  If shredded cheese and butter are on your list, Fiesta is your store.  If you’re looking for eggs, Sellers Bros has 2.5 dozen for $2.99, plus 10 lbs of potatoes for $1.44.  Ham is consistently $1.69-$1.99 across all of the stores, so there’s no real stock up price.

Menu Plan Monday – 3/25

Menu Plan Monday time!

I have got to get back on the wagon. We are spending too much money on dinner out, and I’m over it. Totally. So, it’s back to menu planning and shopping the sales.  Plus it’s almost Easter! This week, we’re going to be taking it pretty easy in advance of the holiday, but if we stick to the plan, we’ll have more money and energy to enjoy it.
Monday: Pork chops, mashed potatoes, and broccoli. We’ve got a lovely coupon for free pork from Bzzagent, so this meal is super cheap and super easy.

Tuesday: Taco Tuesday! Yellow rice, beans, tacos or tostadas. :)

Wednesday: Clean out the fridge night. We’re going to eat it up, use it up, or throw it out.

Thursday: I have no idea.  Whatever looks good on pinterest.

Friday: Tuna salad sandwiches. I have to boil eggs for Sunday anyway, might as well boil a lot more. :) Usually, I’d say this was a cheap meal, but whenever I make it, we go through two loaves of bread. Yeah, my crew likes tuna salad.

Saturday: Fend for yourself night. This includes sandwiches, frozen food, or anything else that isn’t earmarked for a separate meal.

Sunday: Ham, crash potatoes, mac and cheese, green bean bundles, green salad, deviled eggs, rolls, and whatever sweets I come up with.

Best Houston Grocery Deals – 3/6

Best Houston Grocery Deals

Lots of ways to save this week!  The best deals for the stuff on my list are at HEB and Randalls.  I love my personalized pricing and the Just4U program.  I always seem to find good deals.  And last week’s coupons make for a lot of good deals.  I see free burritos at Foodarama and Sellers Bros.  Y’all don’t get them all before I go shopping, okay?
