My not so nice thoughts about Extreme Couponing – 9/28

Here’s my thoughts from watching these shows on my DVR.  I’m just…  Wow.  These 4 women are pieces of work.  Can’t wait to see if I get some visits, like Judy.  Just remember, keep it PG in the comments.  If you wouldn’t say it in front of my kid, don’t say it here.  And if you do, I reserve the right to skewer you.  ;)   I’m just saying.

All 4 of these women shopped at smaller, more neighborhood stores than last season.  I’m curious if this is because the big stores didn’t want to be featured?  I’ve heard Publix has declined.  I don’t blame them.  Publix has a squeaky clean image, and that’s worth a lot.  I wish they’d move to Texas.

April – Coupon General
Has been couponing for 18 months yet has a stockpile of $30k?  I might have $5k. Maybe.  But I don’t chase every day.
“Hoarders have dust on their stockpile.”  Yeah, I don’t think you’re exempt from some compulsive behavior.
I have no need to lock away any food from my children.  That’s insane to me.
16 hrs per week clipping coupons?  I spend 2-3.  Maybe 4 if I need to stock up or clear out end of the month coupons.
Bello’s Market is “allow to double” – is not a doubling store?  Oh, let me guess.  Another store bent their policies?
Is an assembly line necessary? For real?  I can’t imagine.
COUPON DECODING???? REALLY?
Really, she doesn’t pull her coupons till the end?  That would make for some register drama.
Was the priest really about to fall down in praise? I thought that was reserved for Southern Baptists.

Carla – North Carolina – Queen of the Coupon Mafia
5 year couponer, should know better than to be on this show.
Does she have to turn her inserts back in? Does she take them from the paper? Does she do it for a discount on 20 papers a week?
35 hrs per week couponing.  Nuts, I tell you.
“Frenemy”? Worst word ever. Should be banned from the dictionary and lexicon.
“Coupon sabotage”? For real?
Waiting to see a shot of the soda coupons. They’re being a whole lot more careful with the coupon shots.
90% is not $27 of $236 It’s 88.6%, which isn’t nearly as impressive.
$43.87 is 93.7% of $697.96, which again, isn’t 95%. This math is horrible.

Extreme Couponing – Sister Edition
Erin (I’m great at coupons)
16 separate transactions? Really?
Weren’t Luna bars coupons limit 1?
Price Chopper, which had an amazing backlash on their FB wall for this tomfoolery.
Maybe I’m going easy on her because at least her products are going to be used, but good golly, get this woman a hankie.

Shavon – NC
Zone Bars coupons were limit 1 – we’ve seen this before.
$.50 or less, but free is the best.  I’d rather pay for some of my groceries and have them fresh versus up to 2 years old.
2 years worth? EXPIRATION DATES!!!!!
EXPIRATION DATESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!
Can you say look of death?  Nice going, Sister Can’t Coupon.
Hungry Jack pouches? Anyone seen a coupon for that? The only one I’ve seen excluded pouches.
Lowe’s Food Eggs? why would she buy so many? Even if they’re for a soup kitchen.
Lowe’s Food allows RR?
I’m not gonna hate on Granny Flossie. I’m not. But really? She had 1000s of No Expiration Date Coupons? She just decided to save them in case one of her granddaughters was a slacker couponer?

  1. I have actually seen some any Hungry Jack coupons but honestly I wasn’t paying much attention to what they were buying. I was a bit annoyed with them calling out “I am now gonna use my NED coupon now” as I agree, how many did granny leave with them and why didn’t granny use them all up herself?

What still bothers me a TON about these shows is the lack of REUSABLE grocery bags. I mean come on, if you are gonna buy 8 carts worth of crap, can you at least attempt to not waste so much plastic!

  2. Hi Kristin, i just want to say i am new to your blog and i absolutely LOVE it! You are outspoken and have opened my eyes… I have been watching Extreme Coupons and was flabbergasted by these people, I just recently started couponing and couldnt wrap my head around as to how they could get all these “savings” but reading your blog i am happy to know i am not the only one that thinks the way you do, so glad you actually put it in writing, like taking the words right out of my mouth….. I have been using coupons and been saving 40-80 dollars on items that my family and i actually use…. if its an item that i dont use or eat, i will not purchase it just because its on sale..Thanks for the eye opening and keep up the great work! Cheers!

  3. The show is really fake. You are so right about the “allow to double” comment. That store doesn’t double. Another coupon blog I read talked to the store owner the first person shopped at and they don’t even double coupons, they just did it for the show. The other store has apologized already for breaking the rules to give their shopper a crazy trip and took coupons for the wrong things she didn’t buy. Links:
