You may recall that I’ve driven the Chevrolet Volt for the holidays, and I have to say, I really enjoy interacting with it.
Yeah, I said interacting.
It’s a video game. A video game for grownups. And the goal?
Energy saving. Miles per gallon. To pay less at the pump.
And I have to tell you, even as technologically naïve as I am, I never figured I could get this kind of gas mileage. This shot was taken today. And no, your eyes aren’t playing tricks on you. On battery power, I’m getting 96.8 MPG. I’m winning!
You can see in this one, that I’m using 5% energy by allowing the climate control to run on fan only. When you put it on Comfort, you lose all of those savings. And it really makes a difference when you’re on battery power. That’s something I never would have thought of in my slightly gas guzzling 16-year-old Ford Explorer.
When I’m driving, I’m constantly trying to better my score. I want to save money. I want to improve my driving. I honestly never thought about how much gas I was wasting with my stop and go habits. But if you look at this picture, you can see the little green ball on the right side.
The goal is to keep the ball in the center. When you’re at peak efficiency, it will be green, spinning and have leaves on it. When you’re decelerating or accelerating too much, it will turn yellow and get smaller.
Angry ball gets angry.
There’s plenty of room for Jamey’s car seat in the back seat. The leg room isn’t quite enough for the teenager and car rides, but with only four seats, it’s not really a long-term vehicle for us.
But, from driving the Chevy Volt, I can honestly say that we are more interested in ever in buying an electric car.
And the tax savings isn’t bad either.

*Note, I received no compensation for this post. My husband is an employee of the dealership, but I was not asked to post about anything in particular, just the fun I’ve had lighting up my holidays with the Chevrolet Volt*
