Tillamook Cheese Event!

If you’ve been reading here long, you’ll know that my family and I LOVE cheese. All kinds. Brie. Feta. Monterrey Jack. Mozzarella. Cheddar. Pepper Jack.

I could go on, but I’ll stop there.

When I heard about the Tillamook Eat and Greet event, I just had to go. Dude. CHEESE!

I was invited to attend a luncheon sponsored by Tillamook Cheese as a part of their Loaf Love Tour in Hermann Park. (You can see other dates on the tour here.) Since my daughter is a vegetarian, cheese is a big part of her diet. She’s also my aspiring chef, so I let her design our family’s entry into the Grilled Cheese Competition. My pictures of her entry didn’t come out very well (thank you crappy phone AND camera), but she created a roast beef, Monterrey jack and tomato sandwich on rye that she named the “Meaty Noms”. My friend Kristi at Frugally Thrifty and her boys created a “Go Big or Go Home” sandwich with brisket and sausage and a list of ingredients a mile long. Haley at Love, Life, Family and Then Some also created a very imaginative sandwich with the help of her adorable son, Jackson. Melissa at Melissa’s Bargains also came up with a fantastic sandwich. Her husband sprinkled salt on the outside! Everyone had a fantastic time, enjoying the spread that Tillamook provided for us.

There were prizes for various categories, but Jordan’s entry won for “Best Teamwork” which netted us a year’s worth of cheese from Tillamook! YAY!

Jordan also got her face painted. She’s such a good sport. The boys declined. Christopher, as a teenager, is far too cool for face painting, and we didn’t think Jamey would tolerate it because of his sensory issues.

By the time the judging was over, the natives were restless and we headed into the zoo, enjoying the company of April from Insights by April and her two cuties. This was Jamey’s first time at the zoo, but unfortunately, we hit maximum overload, and had to cut it short. That’s okay – we still had a blast.

Thank you so much to Tillamook for a fantastic lunch, admission into the zoo, and a chance to meet up with my friends and their families.
